AIL HOUSE

AIL welcome homes host hematology patients during transplants and intensive therapies: LEMO companies them in waiting, fear and isolation.

The Challenge

Hematology patients staying in AIL welcoming homes face prolonged periods away from home, social isolation, and anxiety related to the uncertainty of their treatment journey. They are not in a hospital ward, but their emotional burden is often comparable to those who are hospitalized. There was a need for a tool capable of reducing distress in a non-clinical context, manageable independently or with minimal support from volunteers.

Therapeutic virtual reality also works — and perhaps especially — outside of the hospital ward.

Our strategy

We introduced LEMO in the AIL welcome homes as an emotional support tool available to guests. AIL volunteers were trained to propose and manage the sessions. The immersive experiences offer a moment of controlled detachment from one's emotional state, reducing the perception of time and discomfort.

Therapeutic virtual reality also brings its benefits outside the hospital ward, where no clinical protocol can reach on its own.
