Lemovie

During chemotherapy sessions, we offer innovative support through immersive experiences designed to reduce anxiety levels, induce a state of deep relaxation, and overall improve the quality of life for patients. Thanks to the integration of virtual reality, we transform treatment time into an opportunity to enhance psychological and physical well-being, based on scientific evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of immersive distraction in modulating the perception of discomfort.

Lemovie: Humanization of Cancer Therapy

Lemovie is a virtual reality application that revolutionizes support for cancer patients, transforming prolonged treatments like chemotherapy, hemodialysis or plasmapheresis into less invasive and more bearable experiences. Thanks to immersive and relaxing scenarios, Lemovie positions itself as a key tool for humanizing therapy, reducing discomfort and promoting a state of serenity during treatments.

The proposed virtual environments are designed to recreate natural landscapes and calming atmospheres, capable of distracting the patient and alleviating the perception of pain. The objective is not only to improve the treatment experience but to offer a moment of escape that encourages deep relaxation and psychological well-being.

Lemovie leverages state-of-the-art virtual reality headsets, such as the Meta Quest 3, and employs advanced technologies like spatial audio and high-resolution images to ensure total immersion. Every detail is crafted to guide the patient throughout the entire therapeutic journey, creating an experience that goes beyond mere entertainment, contributing to a significant improvement in quality of life.

This application represents a new paradigm in the approach to cancer therapy, merging technology with human attention. With Lemovie, care becomes a more empathetic and less stressful experience, reinforcing the concept of humanizing therapy: an approach that centers on the patient and their emotional needs, as well as physical ones.

The Lemovie project, the first virtual reality project for the humanization of cancer therapy initiated by the Careggi Hospital-University Company for patients, signifies a turning point in using technology to enhance the psychological well-being of patients and the training of healthcare professionals. As reported by Monica Pieraccini in an article from La Nazione, "thus, they decided to leverage virtual reality to create solutions capable of improving both the training of healthcare professionals and the psychological well-being of patients."

Lemovie has benefited from the collaboration of high-profile professionals, including Gianni Amunni, oncologist and former General Director of ISPRO, and Cristina Maria Petrella, oncologist at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan and oncologist at Careggi. The collaboration of Emma Di Gangi, a doctor in Psychological Sciences and Techniques at the University of Florence, provided essential contributions in analyzing the psychological aspects related to the use of virtual reality.

A distinctive element of the project has been the involvement of ACTO Toscana – Association Against Ovarian Cancer, represented by councilor Ilaria Alessi, who contributed to creating a video collecting valuable testimonies from former patients. These personal stories highlight how Lemovie can transform the difficult moments of treatment into more serene and bearable experiences.

This multidisciplinary synergy has allowed Lemovie to achieve significant recognition, including the Smart Hospital Mention at the Healthcare Forum, the Social Innovation Mention at StartCup Toscana, and the Human Capital Mention at the Innovation Award Sicily. It was officially presented at the Cracking Cancer Forum and won the First Prize of CNA Florence at the Cambiamenti Award.
