Telemedicine and VR: The New Frontiers
Oct 1, 2024
In addition to traditional clinical settings, virtual reality is finding new applications in telemedicine. With the increase in remote care, VR is being used to provide rehabilitation therapies and emotional support to patients directly in their homes. Through tele-rehabilitation sessions, patients can participate in therapeutic programs that use VR to improve mobility, coordination, and mental health, with remote support from doctors and therapists. This approach has been particularly useful during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many patients could not access hospital services in person. Studies published in Frontiers in Virtual Reality show that VR-based tele-rehabilitation can improve treatment adherence by 25%, with results comparable to those obtained in hospitals.
